PHILADELPHIA ? Three staff members are joining the Nancy & Donald Resnick Academic Support Center for Student-Athletes, as announced by Director Justin Miller. Former graduate extern Sarah Pergine has now joined the staff full-time as an Academic Adviser, while former Temple student-athletes Jake Godino and Paris Williams have been hired as graduate externs.
?We are ecstatic to add these new staff members to our team in the Resnick Academic Support Center for Student-Athletes,? said Miller. ?Sarah, Jake and Paris are all former Division I student-athletes who have demonstrated the requisite skills needed for academic success at the collegiate level.? Knowing that, as well as their personalities and work ethics, I expect they will all have a positive impact on Temple's current student-athletes and on our department as a whole.?
Pergine spent the past year as a graduate extern in the office while working toward her master's degree in sport and recreation management at Temple. She also volunteered as a coach for the Owls' field hockey team in the 2011 season, having graduated from the University of Iowa after a four-year playing career with the Hawkeyes. She earned her bachelor's from Iowa in communication studies and sociology in 2011.
While at Iowa, Pergine started in 53 career games and was a member of the 2010 Midwest High Performance Tournament Team at the USA National Championships. Active off the field as well, she was named the ISAAC (Iowa Student Athlete Advisory Committee) Chair for 2010. Pergine is a native of Collegeville, Pa., and a graduate of Perkiomen Valley High School where she was a first team PAC-10 League selection and second team Philadelphia Inquirer All-Southeastern honoree.
Godino joins the academic support center after a three-year career with the Temple men's basketball team. He was a consistent honor roll student as an undergraduate, and in his junior year earned President's Honor Roll status for having a GPA above 3.5. Godino was the men's basketball recipient of the 2012 Owl Club Academic Award. He graduated with a degree in tourism and hospitality management with a concentration in sport and recreation management.
As a walk-on for the Owls, Godino played in 14 games over the course of his career. During his senior year, he completed an internship in Temple's Athletics Communications Office.
Williams was a four-year member of Temple's track and field team, graduating in 2011 with a degree in social work. Specializing in middle distance events, Williams was the top finisher in the 400m at the 2010 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships, helping lead the Owls to their first ever A-10 Outdoor Championship. That same year, Williams was part of Temple's 4x400m relay team that competed in the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
